If you are at risk from landslides, you should:
Develop an evacuation plan.
If your home could be damaged in a landslide, you should know where to go if you have to leave. Consider the opening of alternative access roads to avoid getting cut off from supplies, access to medical care. Access roads also allow emergency first responders to get to your community to provide aid and relief services in the shortest time possible. |
 |
 |
Learn about emergency response.
Discuss with your community members about inviting the Red Crescent or Jabatan Ketahanan Malaysia to learn about the emergency response and evacuation plans for your area and develop your own emergency plans for your family and business.
|
Familiarize yourself with the land around you.
Knowing the land around you can help you assess your risk and also give you a mental map of where to escape when disaster strikes.
Watch the patterns of storm water drainage on slopes near your home and especially the places where runoff water converges, increasing flow over soil covered slopes.
Watch the hillsides around your home for any signs of land movement, such as small landslides or debris flows, or progressively tilting trees. Noticing small changes could alert you to an increased threat of a landslide. |
 |
Discuss landslides and debris flows with members of your household.
Everyone should know what to do to stay safe if one occurs.
Be aware that landslide insurance is available.
However, as they are not sometimes offered in standard homeowners¡¯ insurance packages, be sure to request landslide coverage from your insurance agent. If you have any questions, contact Insurans Am Malaysia.

Start an early warning program among residents within your community.
It¡¯s not possible for local authority officials to detect ALL signs of landslides within your community. You know your surroundings best, and are in a better position to notice any changes in the terrain of the land or flow of stormwater.
Start a ¡°landslide-watch¡± program within your community members to notice AND report any abnormalities. It¡¯s your community¡ªit¡¯s worth it to take action to protect it. |
